Campus Network



SYSU’s Campus Network (My SYSU) covers the main classrooms, offices, student dormitories as well as faculty apartments on all of the four campuses and affiliated hospitals. It is interconnected with the core network of the university and under the centralized management of SYSU’s IP address.

Campus Network provides rich and valuable information resources to staff and students in order to facilitate them in teaching, learning, research and administrative activities at the University. The Network and Information Technology Center is in charge of the campus network’s construction, maintenance and service.

 

Applying for Campus Network Connection 
 

1. Find out the Network Card Address (also known as physical address or MAC address) of your computer and write it down on a piece of paper. If you don’t know how to obtain the address, please refer to Note 1;

 2. For registered students, bring your ID card, Student ID Card, Network Card Address, and Campus Card which should have enough money to cover the Internet service fee, to apply for the network connection at Room 208, Information and Network Center, No. 3 Teaching Building; for new students, passport, Admission Notification and cash will do.

 3. Get a copy of Connection Configuration Guide for Campus Network Users;

 4. Configure your computer according to the Guide;

 5. Access to the Internet is available two hours after you make the payment for the Internet Service which is charged at 30 yuan per month. For registered students, the money will be deducted from the Campus Card account. As for the Internet connection activated after the 25th day of each month, the Internet service fee will be charged from the following month.

1. How to obtain the Network Card address (also known as Ethernet address or MAC address).

 win98/95£º

1. Click Windows Start => Run.

2. Type in winipcfg , and click OK.

3. Look in "Ethernet Adapter Information" for the entry about your Ethernet Adapter.

4. The Adapter Address is your Network Card address.

XP/Server 2003/2000£º

1. Click Windows Start => Run.

2. Type in the word cmd , and click OK.

3. Once a black command window appears, type in ipconfig /all and hit the Enter key.

4. Look under the Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection section and the Physical Address is your Network Card address.

 

Staff Dormitories’ Network Access


 The steps for connecting staff dormitories to campus network:

1£®Lay the cable indoors according to personal need;

2£®Get access to a computer, check and note down the physical address of the network adaptor card£¨please call the Network and Information Technology Center if there is any question£©£»

3£®Present your ID card, faculty card, SYSU card and the adaptor address at the office of Network Center on different campuses.

 4£®Pay the fees and get connected£¨account opening fee 50 yuan, network construction fee 400 yuan, annual fee 360 yuan, payment transferable.

The faculty users pay the fees collectively in April, through SYSU card or on-campus transfer. The annual management fee of account opening is paid at once in full amount. For more details, please refer to the file of “THE SYSU Campus Network Fees Method”(the SYSU Network NO.[2006]1).

SYSU NetID


A SYSU NetID is available to the staff and students free of charge. The SYSU NetID is the user’s important personal identification and access key to all central IT services provided by the campus network, such as use of E-mail, use of VPN (it helps the users visit the internal resources of the university when they are on the outer net), connection via telephone line PPP, connection via 802.1x, login to “My SYSU” and login to the administrative system and official automation system under specific environment.

The proprietorship of SYSU NetID belongs to the Sun Yat-Sen University. When SYSU student or teacher leaves the SYSU, the SYSU NetID and the services provided by the SYSU NetID will be taken back automatically.

The process of obtaining SYSU NetID (The SYSU NetID is the user’s important personal identification and access key to all central IT services provided by the campus networking, such as use of E-mail):

1. Check with the university’s Human Resources Department, and obtain the faculty number;

2. Visit the SYSU Card Administrative Center, and obtain the SYSU Card;

3. Visit “MY SYSU”URL: http://my.sysu.edu.cn/, click the “new staff” button to access the “Staff NetID Creation” function, and get NetID automatically. (There are public on-line computers in libraries and offices at four campuses, as well as the Network and Information Technology Center.)

The offices of the Center of Information and Network provide the query service of SYSU NetID password .In order to protect the users’ information, the offices do not provide the query service of SYSU NetID password by telephone. The users with their ID cards or faculty cards or SYSU cards can go to the office of the Network and Information Technology Center in each campus to inquire their NetID passwords.

 


IT Technology Consultation & Service


HELPDESK(http://hlepdesk.sysu.edu.cn) is the unitive portal for staff and students who have any questions or need assistance relating to the use of IT facilities and services. It provides services to staff and students by email, hotline and FAQ respectively.

SYSU Forum


The SYSU Forum is an online communication platform, which is open especially to both staff and students. The purpose of launching the SYSU forum is to provide broader space and means for the staff and students to give comments on the development of SYSU, to make the government affairs and school affairs become known to the public, to promote the academic exchanges, offer satisfying services for the staff and students, and encourage all members in SYSU to work hand in hand to construct a healthy and elegant spiritual home online.

The steps for registering in “Forum of SYSU”

1.     Go to the home page of SYSU’s forum
        £¨http://forum.sysu.edu.cn/mvnforum/mvnforum/index£©

2.     The home page of “My SYSU” also provide the entrance to the forum;

3.     Inside the page of the columns, click the “Sign Up” button and then go into the page of registration;

4.     ENTER all the requested personal data then click the “submit” button.

Guidelines

1.     Only the candidate who has SYSU’s formal email can register in the SYSU’s forum;

2.     The candidate with his/her specific email can only register once;

3.     It is only when information submitted is accurate that the candidate can register successfully;

4.     The candidate must abide the SYSU’s forum regulations when he/she posts the messages in the forum.
